Learning the Right Way to Declare Ourselves Righteous

The Book of Psalms often contains exclamations of innocence that sound anything but humble. How can we pray these claims of righteousness when Jesus cautioned against those “who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and looked down on everyone else” (Luke 18:9)? Is there a right way to declare ourselves righteous?
